MDT (Multidisciplinary Team) Meetings
A MDT meeting is where a group of health professionals (e.g. Surgeons, Oncologists, Radiologists, Histopathologists and Nurses) discuss your case due to a variety of reasons. In some instances this is a normal course of action and you should not be concerned.
Colposcopy MDT Meetings
If your case has been put onto a Colposcopy MDT meeting we will usually inform you by letter, as there will be a delay in you receiving your results. In most cases this is because what we were seeing at colposcopy did not correspond to the results of the investigations we obtained, and we just want to check all the results before we proceed any further.
There are also certain smear types that we will always automatically review.
The meetings take place on alternate Mondays. Once they have taken place we will write to you directly, confirming your results and your plan of care.
Local Gynae MDT Meetings
These usually take place for women who have enlarged ovarian cysts that need reviewing, and for women who have early stage endometrial cancer.
The meetings take place every Tuesday. Once the meeting has taken place, your GP will receive a copy of your plan of care. In some instances we may ask them to follow you up, in the case of some ovarian cysts. Otherwise we will either write/telephone you to discuss our findings, or discuss them at your next appointment.
Specialist Gynae MDT Meetings
Every patient diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer will be discussed at this meeting, (which includes the surgeons at Addenbrookes) where joint decisions regarding treatment and care will be made.
The meetings take place every Tuesday. We may telephone you to discuss your suggested plan of care, or discuss it with you at your next outpatient’s appointment.
A copy of this plan will be filed in your notes and faxed to your GP following the meeting.
