Hysteroscopy One Stop Clinic
POSTMENOPAUSAL BLEEDING
Any women with postmenopausal bleeding, should be referred directly to our ONE STOP CLINIC. During this visit they have the following performed:
* US scan
* Hysteroscopy (if the US scan shows an abnormal / thickened endometrium
* Biopsy (if an abnormality is seen)
INCIDENTAL FINDING
Where an US scan shows an incidental finding of an abnormal endometrium in a postmenopausal woman, we would recommend referral directly to the One Stop Clinic
NEGATIVE CERVICAL SAMPLE WITH BENIGN ENDOMETRIAL CELLS
These women will be entered into our direct referral system, resulting in a letter being sent to their GP requesting them to review the patient.
* In women under 40 no further action is required.
* In women over 40, you will need to review the patient’s clinical history to identify whether she has any worrying symptoms such as IMB/PCB or a recent change in menstrual pattern. If she is symptomatic, then she will need to be referred by you to the hysteroscopy clinic for further investigations. Asymptomatic women do not require referral.
* In postmenopausal women the presence of endometrial cells should lead to a direct referral to the hysteroscopy clinic for further investigations even in the absence of symptoms.
